The basics
What does Sink do?
Sink — Push Down Out of Stock (a Shopify app by Xeon Apps) automatically moves sold-out products to the bottom of your collections and keeps the in-stock products above them sorted by a rule you choose — Best selling, Product title, Price, and more. Shoppers always see what they can actually buy first. The full story is on the Sink page.
Does Sink edit my theme or add any code?
No. Sink works at the collection level, not the theme level — it reorders the collection's actual product order through Shopify's API. There are no Liquid edits, no app embeds, no scripts on your storefront, and nothing to re-apply when you change themes.
Which themes does Sink work with?
All of them — free themes like Dawn, paid themes, and custom builds. Because Sink changes the collection's real sort order in Shopify rather than manipulating the page, every surface that renders the collection shows the same order.
Does it work with smart and manual collections?
Yes — both automated (smart) collections and manual (custom) collections. You enable push-down per collection and pick a sorting rule for each one.
How long does setup take?
A few minutes: install, open a collection in Sink, enable push-down, pick a sorting rule, and optionally adjust the sold-out definition and exclusions in settings. Our step-by-step guide walks through it.
How push-down works
How does Sink actually reorder my collection?
When you enable push-down, Sink sets the collection's sort order to Manual in Shopify — saving your original sort order first — and then continuously rearranges the products: in-stock items follow your chosen rule, sold-out items sit at the bottom. How Shopify's sort orders work.
Which sorting rules can I choose?
Best selling, Product title A–Z, Product title Z–A, Highest price, Lowest price, Newest, Oldest, Manually, and Most relevant (Shopify's newest sort order). The rule applies to your in-stock products; sold-out products go below them regardless of rule.
Will I lose my original sort order?
No. Sink records the sort order the collection had before it took over. Disable push-down for that collection and Sink restores it exactly.
How fast do collections update when stock changes?
In real time — Sink listens to Shopify's product and collection webhooks, so a sellout or restock is typically reflected on your storefront within a couple of minutes.
Is there a limit on collection size?
Sink sorts up to 11,000 products per collection, on every plan. Larger collections can still be managed; products beyond that limit simply aren't repositioned.
Restocking
What happens when a product comes back in stock?
It moves back up automatically and rejoins your chosen sort order — you never have to remember it. Supplier deliveries, customer returns, inventory corrections, and transfers all count. How restock repositioning works.
Do I need to re-sort manually after a restock?
No — that's the point of the automation. If you ever want to force an immediate refresh, re-saving the collection's sorting rule in Sink triggers a fresh sort.
Sold-out definitions & exclusions
What counts as "sold out"?
Your choice of three definitions: all variants unavailable for sale; all variants unavailable at locations that fulfil online orders; or all variants unavailable at specific locations you pick. Multi-location stores can match the definition to the warehouse that actually serves their online store.
Can I stop certain products from being pushed down?
Yes, two ways. Products set to "Continue selling when out of stock" can be left in place — they're backorderable on purpose, so shoppers can still buy them. And you can exclude products matching conditions you define (such as specific tags); they stay in the regular sort order even when sold out.
What about products whose inventory isn't tracked?
Untracked products are treated as always in stock and are never pushed down — there's no meaningful "sold out" state for them. Enable "Track quantity" on their variants if you want Sink to manage them.
Plans & pricing
What's included in the free plan?
Everything — real-time push-down, every sorting rule, unlimited products — for up to 5 managed collections. It's a real free plan, not a trial.
What do the paid plans add?
Only more collections. Basic ($2.99/mo) manages up to 25, Advance ($7.99/mo) up to 100, and Unlimited ($19.99/mo) has no cap. Every plan includes unlimited products and all sorting rules — Sink never charges by catalogue size.
Is there a product limit like other push-down apps have?
No. Most competing apps gate their plans by product count; Sink gates only by managed collections. A 50,000-product store pays the same as a 500-product store with the same number of collections. See the comparison.
SEO
Does pushing down out-of-stock products hurt my SEO?
No — push-down is the SEO-safest way to handle sold-out products. Pages stay published, URLs keep working, backlinks keep their value, and Google's index is untouched; only the position within the collection changes. Hiding products, by contrast, unpublishes their pages. Push down vs. hide, compared.
Should I push down or hide sold-out products?
Push down what will restock; hide what won't. Restocking products keep their page, ranking, and demand signals while out of the way at the bottom. Discontinued products are better unpublished — our Blink app handles that, and VarHide covers individual sold-out variants.
Troubleshooting
A sold-out product is still at the top of my collection — why?
The usual causes, in order of likelihood: push-down isn't enabled for that collection; the product is set to "Continue selling when out of stock"; your exclusion conditions match it; its inventory isn't tracked; it still counts as in stock under your sold-out definition (for example, stock remains at a location you're not checking); the change hasn't propagated yet; or a shopper picked a different option in your theme's sort dropdown, which overrides the default order. Our troubleshooting checklist walks through each with fixes.
Why did my collection's sort order change to "Manually" in Shopify admin?
That's Sink working as designed — Manual is the only sort order that allows a custom product arrangement, so Sink switches the collection to it and then maintains the order for you. Your previous sort order is saved and restored if you disable push-down.
Shoppers see a different order when they use the theme's sort dropdown — is that a bug?
No — when a shopper actively chooses "Price, low to high" or another option, Shopify re-sorts the page by that key, and sold-out items mix back in. Sink controls the collection's default order, which is what the overwhelming majority of shoppers browse with.
